Our Nursing Observation Area is a special waiting room with radiology nurses to assist children who will need special preparation for their procedure. For example, some patients need a "poke" before their exam so that contrast, or dye, can be injected. Contrast helps highlight the part of the body that needs to be examined. The nurses in the Observation Area are specially trained in offering comfort positioning and distraction for these patients (
Mott Poke Program). Other patients need to do an "oral prep" for their exam, which is a special drink that highlights the intestinal tract to get the best pictures for certain tests. Kids who come to this area can watch videos, play video games, check out our toy selection, or choose from our book collection while they are here.
