Water Scrabble

Whether you have a kiddie pool or are splashing in the lake – this game is a fun way to practice spelling in the sun!

What you’ll need:

  • 13 kitchen sponges, cut in half
  • Permanent markers

Instructions:

  1. Write a letter on each sponge.
  2. Toss the sponges into a pool, or even the bathtub.
  3. Have each person draw 5 sponges to see if they can create a word. You can take turns and use Scrabble-like rules, or work as a team to create words together.

Another variation you can try is to float all the sponges, letter-side up, in the water. One player thinks of a word, and the other player tries to find the sponges he or she needs to spell the word.

Or, you can label the sponges with numbers. Draw 3 sponges and see whose numbers add up to the highest amount!

This game can also be played with plastic balls that can float in water.
