Grab your camp t-shirt and turn it into a beautiful tie dye work of art!
What You’ll Need:
- Your Camp Little Victors t-shirt
- Fabric dye**
- Rubber bands
- Disposable glove to protect your hands and a disposable cloth or large piece of plastic wrap to protect your work surface
- Piece of plastic wrap
- Cool water
- Help of an adult to put your shirt in the washing machine once it is done
** We found a nice, inexpensive tie-dye kit at our local retail store for under $10 and it makes several tie-dye shirts! It included the dye, rubber bands and disposable products.
Instructions:
Step 1: Review any instructions that came with your fabric dye! This is very important. We are showing you the steps that our kit told us to complete, but your dye/kit may be different!!
Step 2: Take your camp t-shirt and grab it in the center of the front and start twisting it into a circle (see photo above). This will create the “tie dye” spiral shape.
Step 3: Place a rubber band around the circular, rolled up shirt in a vertical direction. Place another rubber band around the shirt in a horizontal direction (see photo above).
Step 4: Wear your protective glove and protect your work surface. Follow the directions on your dye, but ours asked us to fill up the little squeeze bottles of the colors we wanted to use with cool water.
Step 5: Carefully squeeze colors onto the shirt in your preferred pattern/areas (see photo above). Our kit instructed us to carefully place plastic wrap over our shirt to keep it damp for at least 8 hours/overnight.
Step 6: Once it has sat overnight, our kit instructed us to rinse it with cool water until any excess dye has come out. Make sure to put a disposable glove back on for this step! We may have dyed mom’s fingertips blue.
Step 7: Our kit instructed us to place our shirt in our washing machine on the towels or large load setting with a little bit of fabric detergent. It also noted to wash the shirt separately from other clothes for the first few times through the wash.
Step 8: Dry your shirt and proudly wear your new work of art!! Thanks for joining us this year for Camp Little Victors!
