Straw Flute

Make your own music with this fun and easy straw flute! Experiment with different straw lengths to make different sounds.

What You’ll Need:

  • Several disposable straws (we used paper straws to be kinder to the planet!)
  • Tape
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Line up your preferred number of straws side by side (see photo above). We used eight straws, so it wasn’t too wide for our mouth.

Step 2: Tape the straws together by wrapping tape around the entire set of straws closer to one of the open ends (see photo above).

Colorful straws laid out on table for cutting to make flute project using tape.

Step 3: Have an adult help you cut the straws to create different lengths for your flute. We cut ours on a diagonal (see photo above).

Step 4: Put the flute up to your mouth and blow air through the side that is not cut. Make different flutes with different lengths of straws to see what sounds each length makes!
