If you think your child will be particularly nervous or anxious about the imaging procedure, ask our staff to schedule a Child Life Specialist to join you at the appointment. These specially trained professionals will explain the procedure before your child even sets foot in the imaging room. As your child becomes more familiar with what to expect, his or her nerves will calm down. He or she will learn skills to help them cope with the exam and their experience at the hospital. The Child Life Specialist can also stay with your child during the procedure to distract them by reading or simply talking. Coaching by the Child Life Specialist can help you and your child feel more comfortable throughout the radiology procedure. Many families have shared that this time with Child Life has helped their child to build skills of coping that can be used in future health care experiences as well.
