What We Do at Safe Kids Huron Valley
Safe Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating preventable childhood injuries, the leading cause of death and disability for children under 14 years of age. Safe Kids organizes childhood safety campaigns, such as traffic safety, fire and burn safety, water safety, helmet use and home safety.
Our coalition brings together multidisciplinary members with a common goal: reducing injuries to children throughout Washtenaw and Livingston Counties. Examples of our efforts include:
- Distribution of reduced-cost safety equipment (including helmets, sleep sacks and car seats)
- Facilitating car seat checks and educational outreach
- Participating in local safety fairs and community events
- Coordinating walk and bike to school days
Membership to Safe Kids Huron Valley is open to anyone who wishes to volunteer their time to promoting child safety throughout Washtenaw and Livingston counties.
Safe Kids Huron Valley meets monthly to review initiatives and priorities, share resources and explore up-to-date information about childhood injury trends and grassroots prevention tactics.
Our work involves educating community members, advocating for effective laws, providing reduced cost safety products to low-income families and creating safe environments.
