Biography
John R. Charpie, M.D., Ph.D. is Division Director and Amnon Rosenthal Collegiate Professor of Pediatric Cardiology. His clinical interests and expertise are in pediatric cardiac intensive care for infants, children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Dr. Charpie’s research focuses on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury associated with cardiopulmonary bypass, and endothelial dysfunction in children. As a cardiac intensivist, Dr. Charpie is also interested in examining early and late outcomes following congenital heart disease surgery, and novel interventions aimed at improving morbidity and mortality including antioxidants and therapeutic hypothermia among others. Dr. Charpie serves as a Principal Investigator or Co-investigator for several government and industry-sponsored studies in pediatric cardiology.
