Dr. Webb is currently one of the principal investigators in the project "Handheld Echocardiography: Expanding the Reach of Pediatric Preventative Cardiovascular Care in Uganda.” This project is designed to study the ability of a handheld ultrasound machine to diagnose rheumatic heart disease in Ugandan children. The ultimate aim is to understand how rheumatic heart disease may be prevented in this population of children.
Dr. Catherine L. Webb is a Pediatric Cardiologist and a Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. She completed her residency in pediatrics and her pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center; she also received an MS in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies. In 1989 she joined the faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, rising to the rank of Professor of Pediatrics. During those years, she enjoyed a busy pediatric cardiology practice at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. As a nationally recognized leader in telemedicine she is currently helping to establish the University of Michigan Medical Center as a hub for telemedicine service delivery to rural medical centers throughout the Michigan. In concert with her telemedicine activities at U of M she continues her clinical work seeing pediatric patients with congenital heart disease in several outreach sites in Northwest Michigan, including Munson Hospital, Traverse City, MI; Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey, MI; and Marquette General Hospital. Marquette, MI. In addition to her pediatric cardiology practice in the United States, she has provided international pediatric cardiology care to children with heart disease at a charity clinic in rural Kenya. Recently she also collaborated with the US Center for Disease Control to assess the incidence of congenital heart disease in China and to educate local Chinese practitioners to care for patients with these birth defects. She has developed a national and international reputation in pediatric cardiology through leadership roles in numerous organizations including: the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Board of Pediatrics (Sub-board of Pediatric Cardiology), American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and the World Congress of Cardiology, among others. Dr. Webb has authored multiple scientific publications and presents papers and lectures regularly by invitation at national and international meetings.
