Research

Dr. Newman plans to focus her efforts in the research laboratory on the study of the development and differentiation of neural crest stem cells. Neural crest stem cells are the precursor cells of the childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. The characterization and identification of the developmental pathways may provide insight into the progression of the disease and allow a more targeted approach to effective treatment. In addition, she plans to initiate clinical studies to identify novel biomarkers that might serve as predictors of outcome as well as potential therapeutic targets.
