The Duchenne Multidisciplinary Clinic at the University of Michigan is a multidisciplinary clinic with the goal of providing the best care possible for individuals with Duchenne/Becker Muscular Dystrophy. The care we deliver will encompass the multifaceted needs of this community. Distinguishing characteristics of this clinic are proactive communication and the comprehensive management of each patient’s care.
The clinic team is made up of the following specialists:
- Pediatric Neurology
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)
- Physical Therapy
- Pulmonology (Vent Team)
- Genetic Counseling
- Social Work
- Nutrition Counseling
- Wheelchair Seating
The multidisciplinary clinic allows patients to be seen annually by several specialists at once, eliminating the need for multiple appointments and allowing the different specialists to coordinate care. The clinic provides treatment and therapy recommendations, orthotic design, breathing evaluation, on-site echocardiograms (ultrasound of the heart), genetic counseling, and wheelchair adjustments for patients with Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophies. The clinic is sponsored in part by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and is held at the new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital, on the first Thursday of each month.
