Safety Town is a popular education program offered each summer to kids ages 4-6 through participating public school districts. Because Safety Town’s message aligns with the mission of Mott Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Program, we partner with several area public school districts to supplement their Safety Town programs. Through this effort, more than 1,000 kids are reached each summer with life-saving messages about fire safety, crossing the street, water safety, injury prevention, bike helmets, car seat safety, stranger danger and more. The Mott Injury Prevention Program provides curriculum guidance and updated resource materials to partnering school districts. Each Safety Town program also benefits from our Car Safety lesson, which focuses on:
- How seat belts keep us safe
- Proper position of the seat belt – soft parts vs. hard parts of the body
- The importance of car seats and boosters
- Why the back seat is the safest place to be
- The importance of not distracting the driver
